Effective date: July 8, 2026 · CRSP Technologies Inc., Ontario, Canada.
Our approach in one line: Crsp is built to need as little of your data as possible. No account. No login. No selling your data. No ad trackers. You can read the whole app without telling us who you are.
What we do NOT collect
- No identity: no name, email, phone number, or login. There is no account to create.
- No precise location, and no access to contacts, photos, or your microphone.
- No advertising trackers, and no selling or sharing of personal information with data brokers.
- No cross-app or cross-site tracking.
What we DO collect
1. Anonymous usage events, to make the feed better. When you read, we record simple, anonymous signals: that a card was viewed, skipped, or read to completion, along with the card’s topic and source, and the app version. These are tied only to a random ID generated on your device the first time you open the app. It is not your identity and is not linked to any account, email, or advertising ID. We use this to rank stories better and understand which topics people find useful.
- We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: if your browser or device signals that preference, we collect none of these usage events.
- These events contain no IP address and no device fingerprinting.
- Usage events are automatically deleted after 90 days.
2. Things stored only on your device (we never receive these). Your bookmarks, reading history, reading streak, topic and source preferences, and onboarding progress are stored locally on your device. They are not sent to our servers. Clearing the app’s data (or uninstalling) removes them.
3. Reactions and poll votes. When you upvote, downvote, or vote in a poll, we store that choice alongside the same random device ID so totals stay honest. None of it is linked to your identity.
4. Problem reports you choose to send.If you tap “Report a problem”, we receive the text you wrote, which article it was about, and the same random device ID. We do not capture screenshots. Don’t include personal details in the text if you’d rather we not have them.
5. Push notifications: off by default, opt-in only. (Applies once this feature ships.) If you turn on notifications, your device provides a push token from Apple or Google that we store only to send the notifications you asked for. Turn them off anytime and we delete the token.
6. Standard technical data.Like any internet service, our hosting and content-delivery providers briefly process your device’s IP address to deliver the app and protect against abuse. We do not store your IP address in our analytics, and we don’t use it to identify you.
How the AI works with your data
Our summaries are generated from publicly published news articles, not from your personal data. When the app generates a summary or deep dive, it sends the article text (not information about you) to our AI provider, Google Gemini. Your reading behaviour is never sent to the AI.
Where your data is stored
Crsp uses reputable cloud providers for our database, app hosting, and AI processing. They may store or process data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. This is standard for cloud services and is permitted under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) as long as we tell you, which we’re doing here, and take reasonable steps to protect the data. Access to our systems is restricted and secured.
How we use what little we collect
Only to run and improve the app (better ranking, fixing bugs), measure engagement in aggregate, and keep the service secure. We never sell it, and we never use it for advertising.
Your choices and rights (PIPEDA)
- Opt out of analytics: turn on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track in your browser or device, and we collect no usage events.
- Clear local data: clear the app’s storage or uninstall to remove everything stored on your device.
- Ask about your data: because our usage data is anonymous and not linked to your identity, we usually can’t connect it back to a specific person. But you can always email us with questions, access requests, or concerns and we’ll respond as required under PIPEDA.
News content
Crsp aggregates news from publicly available RSS feeds. We generate AI summaries from RSS-provided content only. We do not scrape or store full article text, and every card links back to the original source. Publishers can request removal via our publishers page.
Children
Crsp is a general news app intended for a general audience (rated roughly 12+). It is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we’ll update the effective date and, for material changes, note it in the app. Privacy questions, requests, or complaints: privacy@getcrsp.ca. You also have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
